The need to have a shared understanding of risks, and tools for analysing them, emerged in 2013 during the Sahel and West Africa Week in Abidjan, then at the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Principals Meeting in 2014. Faced with the multiplicity of tools for analysing risks, vulnerability and resilience, discussions are currently underway within the member agencies of the UNDG WCA and the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) about adopting a common multi-risk analysis tool that would help to guide programmes and policies in the Sahel.
