Workshop Report – The health of civilian populations immersed in armed conflict, 2009

We have chosen to focus on the most insidious and misunderstood aspects of health damage that represent the "underside of the Iceberg", the consequences of depriving people of access to resources essential for survival during armed conflicts. Those who die outside health centres from infectious lung and gastrointestinal diseases, chronic diseases or malnutrition are difficult to identify but represent a significant part of the mortality rate that increases during armed conflicts.
