This cross-cutting and multi-sector project includes several activities to help develop the international aid sector in France: the production of knowledge and tools, training and capacity building, the dissemination of knowledge and the sharing of experiences. It has three main sections: the analysis of crisis and post-crisis contexts, environmental issues, and the sharing of knowledge and experience. Monitoring the sector and how it evolves should allow the project to be adapted to the needs of the organisations involved.

The general objective of this project, which is planned for a three-year period (September 2019 – September 2022), is to improve prevention, preparedness and the implementation of aid programmes and to limit the negative impacts of these activities. It follows on from the project of the same name that we ran from February 2016 to February 2019 (and which was also funded by the French Development Agency, Fondation de France and Monegasque Cooperation).

The project includes continuous monitoring to analyse how the sector and its needs are evolving. This ensures that the project is adapted to the sector’s needs and that it continues to be relevant. It produces knowledge, and implements learning and capacity building activities in the following three areas:

  • the environment and the challenges of climate change;
  • issues related to the quality of aid programmes;
  • crisis and post-crisis operations.

The aim is to focus on emerging themes, either because they have not yet been sufficiently studied or because there is a clear demand within the sector for more in-depth analysis.

The project includes a variety of activities, ranging from operational studies to organisational and strategic support, training courses, the development of tools, the facilitation of professional networks and discussion groups, and the dissemination of knowledge to as many people as possible via a number of channels (conferences, workshops, webinars, and both written and audio-visual communication materials).

These activities aim to allow NGOs and their partners to improve their practices, conduct more relevant contextual analysis, and increase their influence during operations in crisis and post-crisis situations. The project also aims to stimulate dialogue and help to promote French NGOs internationally.
