Political events since 1979 have led an increasing number of NGOs to become involved and play an increasingly important role in Afghanistan. The importance of this presence culminated in the aftermath of the establishment of an internationally recognized regime when absolutely everything had to be rebuilt. Now, insecurity problems, international strategies, greater state control are leading to major restrictions on the freedom of action of NGOs, which must reconsider their place in Afghan society.François Grünewald, Véronique de Geoffroy, Peggy Pascal
