Old as chivalry, present in many cultures, the humanitarian idea has grown exponentially in recent decades. The first Nobel Prize in History went to Henry Dunant, a Frenchman lost on the Solferino side who, in the face of the horrors of the battlefield, embarked on a journey that led to the creation of modern International Humanitarian Law and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The last Nobel Prize of the century was awarded to other French nationals, Médecins Sans Frontières.François Grünewald
