Gaza, Gaza… For anyone who has been to this strip of land stuck between the sea and a wall topped with barbed wire, and overlooked by watchtowers and drones, the experience has always been terrifying. In a report for the National Consultative Commission on Human Rights on the situation in the West Bank and Gaza in the spring of 2007, written after several missions in the field, I wrote: “The bombing by the Israeli planes is met by the indiscriminate bombs of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and the missiles fired by the armed branch of Hamas. And vice-versa. Where will this absurd situation lead us?”François Grünewald
