Ongoing study on aid localisation for Trócaire

After an initial field visit to Myanmar in February, Groupe URD is pursuing a study for Trócaire called “More than Money”. We will be travelling to Bunia in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the coming weeks to meet aid organisations there, and particularly local organisations, to hear their views on aid localisation.

The case studies in Myanmar and DRC concern humanitarian crises caused by internal conflicts. The mission in Myanmar focused on Kachin state, in the north, where international organisations are unable to conduct operations directly and must therefore work in partnership with local organisations, thereby leading to the localisation of aid. The many dimensions and issues involved in the localisation of aid will be further explored in DRC, and more particularly around the city of Bunia (in Ituri Province, in the north-east of the country).

This theme of this in-depth study is in keeping with the commitments made at the World Humanitarian Summit in the Grand Bargain and the Charter for Change.
