Launch of the study of risk analysis tools for the Sahel

The countries of the Sahel face multiple risks that are increasingly unpredictable and inter-dependent (security, food, health, economic, etc.). Understanding risks (and their underlying factors) is essential in order to develop operational and organizational strategies that allow populations to recover and make development programmes sustainable. In the face of this complexity, risk analysis tools have been created by humanitarian and development organisations (e.g. INFORM, RSA, RIMA, etc.). Groupe URD has been requested by UNDP and UNICEF Dakar to conduct a study of existing analysis tools, their uses, weaknesses, strengths and complementary aspects.

Groupe URD has been commissioned to carry out a study by UNDP and UNICEF Dakar. The objectives of the study are:

To look into the different analysis tools that exist, what they are used for, their weaknesses and their strengths;
To identify areas where the different risk analysis tools might be complementary;
To establish the basis for a discussion about adopting a common approach to risk analysis between development, humanitarian and state organisations conducting operations in the Sahel.

The results of the study will be presented by Groupe URD at an exchange workshop organised by UNDP in Dakar in March 2016.
