After having precisely defined the contours of famine, then presented the political aspect of famine, we’re going to end this podcast series by focusing on the impact of climate crises, which could become one of the main causes of famine situations.

We’ll see that climate emergencies and food emergencies are intimately linked (even if, to date, climate has never been the sole cause), and that the entire food chain is concerned, from production to conservation, distribution and so on.

This episode also gives us the opportunity to look at “solutions” linked to climate adaptation and resilience, and to this end I’m pleased to welcome Sylvie Wabbes, Climate Officer in the Office of Emergencies and Resilience at FAO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. We are fortunate to hear from Sylvie as she prepares to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP 29) to be held in Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22, 2024, during which the FAO is playing a major role in positioning the transformation of agri-food systems as one of the main solutions to the climate crisis.
