Course objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to :
- Define the main concepts and ethical principles involved in project evaluation;
- Describe how evaluation forms part of a quality improvement process and is part of a monitoring and evaluation system;
- Define the main stages in an evaluation process;
- Design the main tools and methods and put them into practice at the various stages of an evaluation (terms of reference, evaluation matrix, data collection and analysis tools, evaluation report, etc.);
- Describe the issues involved in using evaluation results and the broad outlines of a quality improvement approach within an organisation.

- Key concepts and initiatives relating to the evaluation and quality of humanitarian projects;
- Evaluation criteria and standards used: OECD/DAC, CHS;
- The Quality & Accountability COMPAS evaluation method;
- The different stages in the evaluation process: drawing up the terms of reference, preparing for the evaluation, methodological reflection and writing the inception report, collecting information, writing the evaluation report, feedback and using the evaluation results.
