The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction takes place on 13 October every year. The RepR network will be involved this year and has produced this short video to share some thoughts, particularly about the strategic importance of ‘early warning/ early action’ approaches. The RepR is also active on the topic of climate change and the increased number of disasters that this is causing.
François Grünewald will be representing Groupe URD for the RepR network at the French National Conference on Natural Hazards on 13 October in Strasbourg, organised by the French Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion and the General Directorate for Disaster Risk Reduction, alongside the Association française pour la prévention des catastrophes naturelles et technologiques (AFPCNT).
Sebastien Olharan will testify on the Alex storm in the Roya valley. We had invited him during the webinar co-organised with the IRIS Institute on crises in France and met him during the evaluation of the response to this disaster.
RepR: the Disaster Risk Reduction Network
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Network was created in 2012 and includes CARE France, the French Red Cross, Solidarités International, Humanity and Inclusion (formerly Handicap International) and Groupe URD. The network’s desire was to improve the exchange of tools and good practices, and to build links with representatives of the French government to ensure the visibility of the actions of French NGOs abroad.
