Strategic workshop for the Joint Environment Unit (JEU), September 2019

OCHA and UNEP’s Joint Environment Unit (JEU) aims to improve the integration of environmental issues in humanitarian action and coordinates environmental evaluations in emergency contexts. At the beginning of August, the JEU’s Strategic Advisory Group on Environment and Emergencies, SAGEE, whose members include ECHO, UNEP and Swiss Cooperation, will meet at Groupe URD’s headquarters for three days to develop its operational strategy. Groupe URD will facilitate the workshop and will assist the JEU in this exercise.

The JEU was created in 1994 as a mechanism of the United Nations to mobilise and coordinate emergency aid to countries affected by environmental emergencies and natural disasters with a major impact on the environment. This joint unit between OCHA and UNEP aims to improve the integration of environmental issues in humanitarian action and coordinates environmental evaluations in emergency contexts.

This year, the Unit is celebrating its 25^th anniversary and has decided to develop its operational strategy with a view to future environmental issues and the challenges facing the humanitarian sector. The Strategic Advisory Group on Environment and Emergencies (SAGEE) is therefore meeting for three days for this purpose. Groupe URD will facilitate the workshop and will assist the JEU in developing its strategy. This ‘strategic reflection retreat’ will be taking place at Groupe URD’s headquarters from 30 September to 2 October, and will bring together about thirty participants.
