In search of a sustainable post-emergency: the actions of Swiss Solidarity partners in Haiti
Following the earthquake in January 2010, Swiss Solidarity set up the “Haiti Earthquake Fund”, which has made it possible to support more than 15 NGOs, some of which have been involved in emergency programmes for the care and distribution of basic necessities and the majority of which have been involved in post-emergency programmes for built reconstruction, Wash and Livelihood. From 2010 to 2013, Groupe URD carried out an iterative evaluation of these programmes, which allowed them to evolve as the context and needs changed.
In order to exchange, capitalize on and share ideas about these programmes, as well as the reasons and methods for their development, the seminar “In search of a sustainable post-emergency” was organized by Swiss Solidarity, in partnership with Groupe URD, from 30 September to 02 October 2013 in Port-au-Prince. It allowed us to work on the questions and problems that NGOs had to face for their projects in Haïti.
The debates were organized around four thematic areas:
- Strategic issues
- Technical, economic, ethical and cultural issues
- Social and economic issues
- Resilience issues
An exhibition and a dedicated time around a “Project Fair” provided an opportunity to learn about the projects carried out by all the NGOs that Swiss Solidarity has funded.
