Adopting a territorial approach means giving local actors a central role and designing projects which are adapted to the reality of the local context and thus reinforce local actors. In contrast to standard operational methods that are applied indiscriminately, a territorial approach requires in-depth understanding of what this polysemous concept means. The assumption of many aid projects that there is territorial unity at the local level is often challenged when we focus on the reality of a territory.
