Groupe URD is invited to be a panelist at session 4 “People on the Move and Security; What are the issues”, on the intertwined issues of protecting people on the move and security (of States, host communities, etc.), which will take place on 13 March 2019. He will be represented by Valérie Léon who has carried out several evaluations of assistance and protection programmes for migrants in Europe and the Horn of Africa, as well as a study on solidarity margins in France today.
This event will address the issue of population displacement from several angles. It will address the underlying causes of mass displacement, its impact on the security of host communities, the risks faced – and too often endured – by refugees and migrants themselves, the need for new approaches to assist refugees and migrants, for example to improve their social integration, etc. A half-day special session will be devoted to how refugees and migrants are included in the pursuit of the sustainable development goals adopted in 2015.
