This event aims to mobilize coordinated support for long-term solutions to eradicate hunger in the world and launches the 2019 World Food Crisis Report.
François Grünewald, Director of Groupe URD, who was recently appointed to the group of independent experts for the strategic management of food crises, will give the keynote speech at the workshop on humanitarian and development nexus on food security issues.
More than 100 million people are in food crisis and the situation will only get worse if current trends are not reversed. Scientific data and policy analysis identify three main groups of factors that contribute to food crises:
- Socio-economic factors: demographic changes, urbanization, growing inequalities, unequal access to resources, unhealthy habits.
- Environmental factors: climate change, land degradation, overexploitation of natural resources, water scarcity.
- Peace and security: armed conflict, good governance, rule of law.
